Mandarin Chinese Language School

Why is it important for children to learn Chinese?

Speaking Chinese is becoming the most important business skill of the 21st century and the language is currently being taught in many secondary schools.

The Mandarin Chinese Language School

The Mandarin Chinese Language School teaches children Mandarin Chinese in an after-school immersion program. Native Chinese teachers will teach students the Chinese language, history, and culture, infusing academics with art, songs, and games.

Who?

The Mandarin Chinese Language School will be a two-strand program for kindergarten and first grade students who are interested in learning a second language and/or where Mandarin is a part of their home language. The School will provide an environment and friends to practice the language.

When and Where?

Beginning in the 2008-2009 school year the Mandarin Chinese Language School will be held five times a week (Monday through Friday) from 2:35 p.m. to 4:35 p.m. at Del Mar Hills Academy. Optional extended care will be provided until 6:00 p.m. by the Chinese School.

Requirements

  • Del Mar Hills Academy enrolled Kindergarten or First Grade Student (Intra-District transfers welcomed)
  • Mandarin spoken in the home is welcomed but not required.

Tuition

A yearly tuition of $2,700. May be paid monthly at $270/month. Extended care from 4:35 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. offered at an additional fee of $7/day. The DMUSD Child Care program is available for students who need care from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at a rate of $8.30/day.
