Michael Casey Appointed as New Director of Technology
On July 30, 2008, the Board of Trustees of the Del Mar Union School District approved the appointment of Mr. Michael Casey as the District’s new Director of Technology. Mr. Casey replaces Mr. Tom Hauseur who retired from the position in October 2007. Mr. Casey was selected for the position after a national advertising campaign to seek an experienced and highly competent technology leader.
A diverse interview team, consisting of certificated and classified staff from across the District, including staff members from the technology department, and a Board member, had the opportunity to interview seven candidates on July 15, 2008. These seven candidates were selected for an interview from a pool of twenty applications. Mr. Casey was the unanimous choice of the interview panel to advance to a final interview with the Interim Superintendent, the Director of Human Resources and the Board President.
Mr. Casey comes to the Del Mar Union School District with a highly impressive background in the field of technology over the last 27 years. He was formerly employed as the Executive Director for Information Technology with the San Diego Unified School District for the past six years. Prior to this position, he served as a technology manager and program specialist in the Technology Department and a computer science, math, and general science teacher in the District. Mr. Casey has been very successful in the coordination, management and development of major information systems. He has proven expertise with the development of technology infrastructures as well as the use of technology to enhance the curriculum and classroom instruction.
Mr. Casey has been described as being hard-working, well prepared, and committed to excellence. He possesses outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and enjoys being part of a team effort.
Interim Superintendent, Janet Bernard, commented that, “Michael Casey will be a very strong addition to the administrative team. He will provide extraordinary knowledge, depth and leadership to take our District technology efforts to the next level!”
Mr. Casey’s first official day of employment with the Del Mar Union School District is scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2008.
